German Mauser Gew98M. Chambered in 8mm Mauser, this rifle was originally manufactured in 1917 at the Spandau arsenal. However, this rifle was later rebarreled in 1938 by the Germans. During this rebarrel process, the rifle gained the tangent rear sight which makes this a Gew98M instead of a standard Gew98. This rifle appears to be matching with the exception of the bolt and the front action screw. The stock is odd as the new number is stamped over the old number. The handguard is not numbered. This rifle has been duffle cut underneath the rear barrel band however has been repaired quite well. The rifle includes what appears to be an original muzzle cover as well (marked by a cursive m underneath the door of the cover). The story that we received with this rifle is that it was a bringback by a 2nd Infantry Division soldier in WWII however no paperwork was provided. The sling on this rifle is a reproduction. The bore on this rifle is in very good condition. Overall this is a very nice rifle that would be a great addition to any Mauser or WWII collection.
This rifle is C&R eligible.
